Update on our fuel poverty campaignFuel poverty campaign information

Since the launch of our Fuel Poverty Campaign in December, hundreds of people have contributed to our online map to help us create a nationwide picture of the scale of fuel poverty in the UK.

A person is defined as being in fuel poverty if 10% or more of their household income goes towards fuel bills. According to the latest Government figures, some 5.5 million UK homes are affected by fuel poverty.

You can help us to highlight the issue of fuel poverty by encouraging your clients to visit our fuel poverty website and calculating the amount they pay for gas and electricity as a percentage of their household income to indicate if they are in fuel poverty. These rates will then be plotted on our interactive fuel poverty map to give a visual picture of the variation across the UK. All results are completely anonymous.

Throughout this campaign we will be encouraging people who are struggling with fuel bills to check they are receiving all the financial support available to them in the form of welfare benefits and charitable grants.
