BBC News website (link opens in a new window)Parents who are on low incomes and working less than 16 hours a week will be eligible for childcare support from 2013 under Government plans revealed this week.

The Government say that this new step will benefit 80,000 families receiving the new single payment benefit Universal Credit - to be launched in 2013 and will replace several benefits including Child Tax Credit and Working Tax Credit. The extended childcare support will be worth up to £175 a week for families with one child and £300 for those with two or more. An additional £300 million has been allocated to the Universal Credit budget to pay for this.
