Department for Communities and Local Government to invest more money to tackle homelessness - Turn2us

Department for Communities and Local Government website (link opens in a new window)A new report from the Department for Communities and Local Government, Making Every Contact Count (link opens in a new window), sets out a cross-Government approach to ensuring that anyone at risk of homelessness gets help at the earliest possible stage to prevent them from losing their home.

The Government is also to invest £3.5 million across 21 charities to expand a rough-sleeping initiative, No Second Night Out, to eight additional areas - Manchester, Plymouth, Great Yarmouth, North Devon, Taunton, Gloucestershire, Chichester and Worcestershire.

First introduced in London, the No Second Night Out project works with members of the public to quickly identify people sleeping rough locally and provides them with the support they need to get themselves off the streets. The Housing Minister, Grant Shapps, wants to see the initiative rolled out across the country.
