Caravan
“Turn2us is an absolutely invaluable service”
says Cathy Mercer, Welfare Director of the grant-giving charity
Caravan.
Cathy has been using Turn2us services for almost a year now, as
have the welfare team at Caravan, and she believes that it has made
a considerable contribution to improving working practice.
Caravan provides financial support to people who work in the
grocery trade who have fallen on hard times and a key feature of
their work centres around locating those who are in need.
Cathy Mercer uses the Turn2us website herself
as do her colleagues at the Caravan head office in Sandhurst. “It’s
a one stop shop for everything”, she says “very navigable and easy
to use”. Caravan accepts online enquiries through Turn2us and has
received a total of 72 referrals in 6 months. “This is
approximately 16% of all our web-based referrals”, Cathy confirms,
“and we have seen a steady increase in numbers as Turn2us becomes
more established”. Cathy believes that Turn2us has enabled Caravan
reach a younger audience. Working hard with Turn2us on the
description of Caravan’s fund criteria on the Turn2us site has
helped ensure well targeted referrals.
The Turn2us helpline service is particularly
useful for the Caravan welfare team when visiting new
beneficiaries. In just one phone call they are able to carry out a
full benefits check for the individual and obtain further contact
details should they wish to make a claim. The Turn2us advisers have
a vast amount of knowledge at their fingertips, which Caravan is
able to tap into, obtaining helpful phone numbers, should they wish
to point the client elsewhere for further advice or
assistance.
Cathy would encourage other benevolent funds
to come onboard without hesitation, saying that the Turn2us service
“is absolutely key to communicating what all benevolent funds are
trying to do. It’s a simple tool for individuals looking for help
and for organisations looking to help them. I really believe that
it is the best and easiest service currently available on the
market”.
