German nationals or their dependants who live in the UK can apply for financial help from the German Welfare Council in a crisis.
The Council administers several different funds, some of which are designed for one-off emergency help, others for helping the elderly and chronically ill with their heating bills. One fund is for helping students who are in financial difficulties.
Applications can be made by letter, by visiting the German Advice Centre or by getting a referral from a social worker or other welfare agency or charity. You must show proof of your income and expenditure.
