Individuals whose home is in Colchester or North East Essex, who have exceptional artistic talent (especially in music) and are disadvantaged in a way which affects their development.

Exclusions

Applications are not accepted from outside the beneficial area, or for mainstream education.

Type of grants

One-off and recurrent grants ranging from £150 to £2,000. Schoolchildren can be supported for equipment/instruments and fees; further and higher education students can receive grants for equipment/instruments, fees and study or travel abroad; and postgraduates may be supported for fees and study or travel abroad.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent, submitted directly by the individual in time to be considered by the trustees in January, April, July and October. Applications should include information about total funds needed and all other sources of funding available, including from the individual's family.

Other information

The trust also gives to organisations.

Eligibility

Members and former members of the institute and their dependants.

Exclusions

Generally no grants given to students but some educational grants may be given to members of the institute, not their children.

Type of grants

Emergency one-off grants (usually around £200); monthly grants (variable according to circumstances, presently £40 to £100 a month); special Christmas and summer holiday grants usually paid to people receiving regular grants (variable but with emphasis on dependent children); and top-up nursing/residential home fees and similar.

Applications

Should be submitted through a regional representative on the national council of the institute. Applications are considered on receipt.
