Southampton and District Sick Poor Fund and Humane Society

People who are sick and poor and live in Southampton and the immediate surrounding area.

Eligibility

People who are sick and poor and live in Southampton and the immediate surrounding area. Grants and certificates are also awarded to people for saving or attempting to save someone from drowning or other dangers.

Type of grants

One-off grants usually ranging from £50 to £250 for bedding, food, fuel and specialist equipment to alleviate an existing condition or to assist with day-to-day living.

Applications

In writing to the correspondent. Applications should preferably be submitted through a social worker, Citizen's Advice or other welfare agency. The trustees usually meet twice a year, but applications can be dealt with outside these meetings. Applicants must clearly demonstrate that they are both sick and poor (such as evidence of Income Support or other state benefits).

Type of grants

The trust gives grants for school fees, but not for people at college or university. Occasionally one-off grants are given to help with the cost of education essentials for schoolchildren.

Renfrewshire Educational Trust

People who have lived within either the Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire or Inverclyde areas for the last three years or have come from one of the aforementioned areas but currently live elsewhere in order to undertake their course of studies. Student's family income must not exceed £30,000 per annum. For children's excursions the minimum criteria is receiving free school meals.

Eligibility

People who have lived within either the Renfrewshire, East Renfrewshire or Inverclyde areas for the last three years or have come from one of the aforementioned areas but currently live elsewhere in order to undertake their course of studies. Student's family income must not exceed £34,000 per annum. For children's excursions the minimum criteria is receiving free school meals.

Exclusions

No grants for individuals whose household income is £30,000 or over.

Type of grants

Grants of typically £200 to £400 for fees, maintenance or travel costs associated with further or higher education including the performing arts. Schoolchildren can receive help with the costs of educational outings.

One award of £3,400 is made each year to a student on a one year taught masters course.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent or the website. (Separate application forms are available for general grants and travel grants.) Details of household income are requested. Applications can be submitted either directly by the individual or via their school. Applications are considered every six weeks.
