Young people leaving school who live in the parish of Bosbury and have done so for at least three years.

Exclusions

Only applications from people living in the parish of Bosbury will be considered.

Type of grants

Grants of up to £250 towards books are given to young people 'on leaving school' going on to further education. Students undertaking university courses of three years or longer are invited to apply for a further grant in their final year. Grants may also be given towards school uniform for children in need.

The parish of Bosbury consists of around 500 people. In previous years the trust has stated that it is being inundated by applications from outside the parish which cannot be considered due to the deeds of the trust, and these applications will not be acknowledged.

John Matthews Educational Charity

Grants of £250 to £2,000 for equipment or course fees. Grants have been given to assist musicians, actors, journalists, tree surgeons and medical students.

The charity favours postgraduate or second degree students with a vocational element who are not getting other financial support, although undergraduates can be supported.

Applications

On a form available from the website along with a covering letter giving as much information as possible and proof of identity including proof of residence within the area of benefit. Trustees usually meet twice a year in May and November.

Scargill’s Educational Foundation

People under the age of 25 who live in the parishes of West Hallam, Dale Abbey, Mapperley and Stanley (including Stanley Common).

Eligibility

People under the age of 25 who live in the parishes of West Hallam, Dale Abbey, Mapperley and Stanley (including Stanley Common).

Type of grants

The main beneficiary of the charity is Scargill Church of England Primary School. Priority is also given to three other schools in the area. After that, help is available for groups and also for individuals for the following purposes:

(i) Grants, usually up to about £45, for sixth form pupils to help with books, equipment, clothing or travel.

(ii) Grants, usually up to about £175, to help with school, college or university fees or to supplement existing grants.

(iii) Grants to help with the cost of books and educational outings for schoolchildren.

(iv) For the study of music and other arts and for educational travel.

On a form available from the correspondent. The foundation places advertisements in August, and the formal closing date is 29 September, although applications after this date will be considered if funds permit.

The High Wycombe Central Aid Society

Applications can be submitted through a social worker, Citizens Advice or other welfare agency and are considered on a monthly basis.

The society also runs a Pensioners Pop-In for people over 50 twice a week and facilitates a division of SSAFA Forces help.
