Textile Industry Children’s Trust

Supporting children and young people under 18 whose parents work (or have worked) in the fashion, textile retail or manufacturing sectors.

Eligibility

Children and young people under 18 yrs whose parents work or have worked in the UK fashion and textile retailing and manufacturing industry.

Exclusions

No grants are given towards child care, study/travel abroad; overseas students studying in Britain; student exchange; or people starting work. No grants are available for those in higher education.

Type of grants

The trust concentrates its grant giving on 'the essential costs of education'; in practice this means particularly, but not exclusively, the payment of school fees. There is a preference for those with serious family difficulties so the child has to be educated away from home or at schools which offer vital pastoral care. The trust will also fund places at specialist schools for children with learning difficulties or for those who would benefit from attending a school that focuses on music or sport. Help is given with existing school fees where there has been a ‘dramatic’ change in family circumstances. Hardship grants are also available for clothing, books, computers, travel costs to attend school and educational trips.

Grants usually range from £200 to £300 for hardship awards and £3,600 spread over the academic year for educational support.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent or an initial enquiry form from the trust's website. Applications can be submitted at anytime either directly by the individual or through a third party such as a social worker, teacher or Citizens Advice. Applicants are encouraged to call the trust in the first instance, to discuss an application.
