People under the age of 25 who live or work in Middlesbrough and who are or have at any time been in attendance at the following schools or colleges: Acklam Grange, Brackenhow/Kings Academy, Hall Garth, Kings Manor, Langbaurgh/Keldholme/Unity City Academy, Middlesbrough College and Teesside Tertiary College.

Exclusions

No grants where statutory funding is available or to people who have received a grant from Middlesbrough Council in the current financial year.

Type of grants

Grants are given for the following: attendance at any approved place of learning; clothing, equipment, and so on needed to prepare for, or enter, a trade or profession; educational travel scholarships; study of music and other arts; educational research; recreational and social and physical training; assistance in the event of sickness, disability and so on to enable full benefit from educational facilities.

Applications

Applications to this fund may be made directly by the individual or by recommendation, where appropriate, from a headteacher. Application forms are available from the correspondent.

Other information

In the case of educational research, assistance may also be provided to people over 25.

The CB & AB Holinsworth Fund of Help

People in need who live in or near to the city of Birmingham and are sick or convalescing.

Eligibility

People in need who live in or near to the city of Birmingham and are sick or convalescing.

Exclusions

Generally grants are not given for bills or debt.

Type of grants

One-off grants ranging from £50 to £300. Grants are given towards the cost of respite holidays, travelling expenses to and from hospital, clothing, beds and carpets.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent. Applications are considered throughout the year and should be submitted through a social worker, Citizens Advice or other welfare agency. Confirmation of illness is needed, for example a letter from a doctor, consultant or nurse.

Other information

Grants are also given to organisations.

The Ceramic Industry Welfare Society

People who are or have been employed in the ceramics industry. Membership of the Ceramic and Allied Trades Union is a condition as is payment when in work of 50p a year premium, deducted from annual holiday pay.

Eligibility

People in need who are or have been employed in the ceramics industry, or widows of former employees.

Exclusions

No grants are payable beyond 12 months of the date of retirement.

Type of grants

Recurrent grants are fixed at £45 per six week period depending on the circumstances of the applicant as confirmed by the visit of the society's representative.

One-off and recurrent grants of up to £500 a year are made to further and higher education students towards books, equipment/instruments and maintenance/living expenses.
