Grants given according need to help young people develop their musical abilities by playing individually and in groups.

Applications

In writing to the correspondent before the annual closing date of 31 May each year stating the reason the award is needed, family circumstances and the contact details of a referee which should be the headteacher or head of music at the applicants’ school.

Other information

The trust also supports groups of young musicians studying all forms of music including classical orchestral, solo performers, jazz, and folk and wind bands.

Exclusions

Accommodation costs and day-to-day travel expenses will not be considered.

Type of grants

One-off and recurrent grants for those at school to help with equipment/instruments, excursions and study or travel abroad and to vocational students and further and higher education students for books, excursions equipment/instruments and study or travel abroad. People starting work and apprenticeships and those studying music and other arts may also apply. Grants range from £25 to £120.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent to be submitted directly by the individual. Grants should be submitted in February and August for consideration in April and October respectively.

Eligibility

People, usually under 35, in need who live in Rutland and are at any level or stage of their education.

Type of grants

One-off grants ranging between £50 and £400. There are no restrictions on how the grants may be spent. In the past, grants have been made towards music and school trips for needy young people, for European exchange trips, and for young people to take part in educational, missionary and life-experience programmes overseas. Grants may also be spent on books, equipment, fees, bursaries, fellowships and study visits.
