The trust does not give cash directly to applicants nor does it usually pay the full amount of a debt unless any repayment is beyond the individual’s means.

Usually one-off grants in whole or part payment of a particular need for example heating costs, housing, debts, replacement of bedding and damaged furniture, removal costs, and holidays.

A description of the person’s financial position, the gaps in statutory provision, what contribution the applicant can make towards the need and what help can be given to prevent the need for future applications should be included. Applications are considered throughout the year. Grants are given on the recommendation of social workers, health visitors, probation officers, home nurses, doctors, clergy and welfare organisations (for example Citizens Advice), and are paid through these bodies.
