Eligibility
Severely disabled people of all ages, primarily in the Midlands and North West. This can include people with significant sensory, physical and intellectual impairments and those with complex and challenging behavioural needs.
Payments for or towards specific items or services which will make a 'positive' difference to the quality of life of individuals or groups.
Exclusions
No grants for: education and course fees; debts; motor vehicle purchase or expenses; nursing and residential home fees; funeral expenses; removal expenses; driving lessons; items already purchased; therapies such as swimming with dolphins and hyperbaric therapy; alternative therapies such as reflexology, acupuncture and faith healing.
Type of grants
Applications are treated on their merit. There is no official upper limit to the amount offered, however grants of above £5,000 would be relatively rare.
Previously, grants have been given for special clothing, footwear, mattresses and beds, indoor/outdoor wheelchairs, mobility scooters, kitchen equipment, a Meywalker and structural ammendments to houses and living areas.
Applications
Applications are welcomed from individuals, professional workers and representatives of organisations and institutions. Where the request is from a private individual, a detailed letter of support from a professional (e.g. family doctor, hospital consultant, social worker, teacher or a worker from a community or disability organisation) is essential. If applying for specialist seating, manual or powered wheelchairs are requested, the letter must be from an occupational therapist or physiotherapist.
Applicants should first complete a short preliminary enquiry form. This can be done online at the sfgroup website, or by completing the form attached to the charity's information leaflet which can be requested by phone or email. The Fund Manager will make contact within two weeks of receiving the application to discuss the request in more detail.

Grants are also made to organisations.
