The Schools Music Association of Great Britain

Musicians in full-time education up to the age of 18 who are in financial need.

Eligibility

Musicians in full-time education up to the age of 18 who are in financial need.

Exclusions

Ongoing courses cannot be funded.

Type of grants

Help towards buying musical instruments, summer schools, short courses and so on. Grants are one-off and usually range from £50 to £150.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent. Applications must be supported in writing by a headteacher, principal, music teacher or music adviser/inspector, and by a member of the Schools Music Association. They should be submitted by the end of February or September.

Grants can be made upon receipt of written evidence of the expenditure having been made during the 12 months following the date of application, for example, a receipt for an instrument bought, or a summer school certificate of attendance. Grants are not normally made for expenditure before the date of application.

No grants to mature students.

Type of grants

One-off grants are given to schoolchildren for school uniforms and other school clothing, books and educational outings, and to students in further/higher education for help with books. Preference is given to schoolchildren with serious family difficulties.

The Rhondda Trust

The Trust assists with projects which will improve education, training or skills opportunities of the people in the Rhondda.

The Trust can assist with education or training course fees, the purchase of items of equipment or tools, projects providing educational, skills and capacity enhancement opportunities and employment opportunities as well as grants for travel in the UK or abroad for the purpose of education and training.

Eligibility

The Trust welcomes grants from properly constituted voluntary community and/or charitable organisations solely operating in the Rhondda Fawr and the Rhondda Fach can apply for this funding, as can national national or regional organisations for work solely carried out in the two rhondda valleys.

The Trust can assist with education or training course fees, the purchase of items of equipment or tools, projects providing educational, skills and capacity enhancement opportunities and employment opportunities as well as grants for travel in the UK or abroad for the purpose of education and training.

UK eInformation Group (Special Interest: Group of CILIP: Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals).

Eligibility

Must be a Student.

Type of grants

The Group has two awards:

1. Student Bursary

The £2,500 award is open to UK students on both first degree and postgraduate qualification courses (whether taught or research) in a UK school or department of librarianship, information studies, information science, knowledge management or information management running courses accredited by CILIP.

Awards are not open to distance learners unless they are unwaged. The award is equally available to a student who has received it previously. The award is only open to self-funding students who are not in receipt of government funding, or any other award, bursary or scholarship. Students may have a student loan.

A call is sent to universities and to departments of information studies in July each year; departments may put forward the name of one student who they believe to be deserving of the award, along with a brief recommendation detailing why the awards panel should select their candidate.

Applications to be received by mid-October.

2.Student Conference Grant

The grant is offered to any UK undergraduate and postgraduate student in a UK school or department of librarianship; information studies, information science, knowledge management or information management running courses accredited by CILIP. Each grant is offered to enable a student to attend a UK-based conference relevant to their professional studies. Applications are accepted throughout the year. The grant award may not cover all costs. Nominations should take the form of a letter detailing the benefits to be gained from attending the conference, as well as details of the conference, including date and place, and the costs to be incurred.

Applications

Must be made in writing. The awards will be given on the basis of the student's need, so the case should concentrate on their exceptional lack of funds.

Vitalise Joan Brander Memorial Fund

Provides grants towards the cost of short term respite care breaks at Vitalise Centres.

Vitalise is a registered charity providing respite care breaks with 24 hour care and support on-call, excursions and entertainment.

Contribution towards the break in order to ensure breaks are affordable to physically disabled adults and carers who might otherwise not be able to afford a break.

Eligibility

The Fund is designed to provide breaks and holidays for adults with physical disabilities and carers who might otherwise not be able to afford a break.

Aim of the fund is to fund breaks for people who haven’t previously stayed at a Vitalise Centre or haven’t stayed for 2 years or more

The fund is not means tested but a letter of support from a social care or healthcare professional will be required.

Exclusions

Existing guests who have stayed at a Vitalise Centre within the last 2 years.

Type of grants

Grant must be used to fund breaks at Vitalise Centres only

Applications

Require a letter of support fom a social care or healthcare professional.

Grants do not cover assoicated costs eg transport to and from the Centre.

Vernon Cade Fund

The Vernon Cade Fund exists to provide financial support to trainee solicitors who reside in and/or are employed within the county of Cambridgeshire.

Eligibility

You must be a trainee solicitor who resides in and/or are employed within the County of Cambridgeshire.

Exclusions

Applicants who have not yet obtained a training contract are unlikely to be successful.

Typically not more than £2,000.
