No grants for postgraduates.
Type of grants
One-off and recurrent grants are made ranging between £50 to £300 for people engaged in social, youth and community work (paid or voluntary) who cannot afford the relevant education or training. Priority is given to those who have left school with few, if any, qualifications, and people from minority communities who have experienced difficulties in entering education. Any of the costs of education, including childcare, travel expenses and books, can be considered.
The trust helps people at a wide variety if educational stages, including Higher Education in social work and youth work, Access courses, GNVQ's, GSE's, counselling qualifications, introductory courses to Maths, English and IT, and Community courses such as Credit Union, Playwork and Capacity Building.
Applications
Applications should be made at least six weeks before the grant is required. Exemptions from this may be made in emergencies. Application forms are available from the correspondent. Applications are considered all year round.
Other information
As the basic aim of the fund is to promote opportunities for the development of skills for community activists, it also offers education advice.
"Help is also extended to community groups who may want to attend a conference (such as credit
unions), or who manage community projects where new legislation has necessitated training for their
volunteers, or who wish to stage training events for their local community."
