The Show Business Benevolent Fund

The fund administers two smaller funds: the Mozart Allan Benevolent Fund (SC004768) and the W. F. Frame Benevolent Fund (SC008402).

The Mozart Allan Fund makes grants to members of the Show Business Fund and their dependents for convalescence and home comforts.

The W F Frame Fund grants emergency relief to people who have been connected with the entertainment profession. A maximum of £250 per year is available.

Women’s Continuing Ministerial Education Trust (formerly The Deaconess Trust Funds)

Ordained women, accredited female lay workers in the Church of England (including Church Army Sisters) and religious sisters (both lay and ordained).

Eligibility

Any woman, ordained or not, who is licensed into a nationally recognised ministry in the Church of England or the Scottish Episcopal Church (with the exception of Readers). Religious Sisters and retired clergy who are involved in active ministry may also apply

Type of grants

Grants usually help with continuing education expenses including part-time degree course fees, conferences, sabbaticals and workshops, and also some welfare needs. Grants are intended to supplement funds available from the applicant's diocese.

Applications

On a form available either as a download from the Church of England website, or via email on request which should be returned by post. Applications must be endorsed by the Diocesan CME Officer or Dean of the Women's Ministry. Applications will normally be considered in March, June, September and December; however applications for funding for research degrees will be considered at the March meeting and should therefore be submitted by 16 February.

The Royal Scottish Corporation

Scottish people, their children and widows, who are in need and live within a 35-mile radius of Charing Cross.

Eligibility

Scottish people, their children and widows, who are in need and have lived within a 35-mile radius of Charing Cross for at least two years.

Exclusions

No grants are made for debts or for items that have already been purchased.

Type of grants

Training grants for fees, books and computers to enable people to secure qualifications with a view to gaining employment. Student grants for fees, books/equipment and maintenance. Grants are also given for school uniforms and trips.

Applications

On a form available by contacting the organisation. After receiving the completed form, which should include copies of the birth/wedding certificates, the corporation decides whether to submit the application for consideration at the trustees' monthly meeting. They may also decide to visit or ask the applicant to visit the corporation's office to discuss their case.

Exclusions

Grants are not given towards debts or arrears owed to government bodies.

Type of grants

Almost all types of grants can be considered. Typically the fund can provide financial help for mobility aids, debt relief, essential home repairs or modification and respite care.

Applications

By direct contact with the fund or through SSAFA, the Royal British Legion or the Royal Air Forces Association. Applications are considered on receipt and normally a decision is given within days.

The Shepherd Street Trust

Type of grants

Grants are given to: (i) support educational, social and physical training needs; (ii) provide funds for outfits, clothing, tools, instruments, equipment which will help to further education or entry into a profession, trade or calling; or (iii) assist towards facilities for recreation or other leisure occupations in the interests of social welfare.

Applications

Application forms can be downloaded from the trust's website. Applications for grants exceeding £500 will be discussed at the trustee meetings held every two months unless there is a pressing need for funds, in which case, earlier consideration will be made. Applications for grants of less than £500 will be decided on by the trustees within four weeks of receipt.

Other information

The trust also donates funds to charitable institutions and organisations which help such persons, and to the children's ward at Preston Royal Infirmary.
