The Family Holiday Association

Families who are referred by social workers, health visitors or other caring agencies as desperate for a holiday break. Applicants must not have had a holiday within the past four years, unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Families with at least one child aged between 3 and 18 who are unable to take a holiday due to financial hardship can apply to the Association for help.

Applicants must be referred to the Trust by a third party, such as a Social Worker, who will be required to fill in an application form, available from the Family Holiday Association website.

The Trust administers holiday vouchers for UK based holidays.

The Trust considers grants between November and spring.

Eligibility

Families who are referred by social workers, health visitors or other caring agencies as desperate for a holiday break. Applicants must have a low income; not have had a holiday within the past four years, unless there are exceptional circumstances; and at least one child must be aged between 3 and 18.

Type of grants

Day trips, short breaks and week-long holidays. Either the family has an idea about where they want to go and the association decides how much to give towards the total cost, or the association funds the entire holiday at a holiday centre and gives money towards the costs of food, spending money and so on. Grants are generally from £250 upwards.

Occasionally, the association also receives offers of holidays at short notice, e.g. a half board holiday in the UK or an activity holiday abroad. If a family can travel with only a few days’ notice their chance of receiving a break may increase.

Applications

Through the online application form or on a paper form available to download from the website. The association does advise that online applications are processed much faster. Applications should be submitted in November each year. The association usually has enough applications to commit all its funds by December. Applications must be referred by a welfare agency, voluntary organisation and so on. Those made directly by the individual are not accepted.
