Aisling Bursaries

Students over 18 in West Belfast going into full-time or part-time further or higher education or vocational training courses. Bursaries are not available for people repeating all or part of a course unless it is due to medical or personal reasons

Eligibility

Students aged over 18 who live in the West Belfast Westminster Parliamentary Electoral Constituency. Applicants must be preparing to study or be currently studying on a full-time or part-time further education, higher education or vocational training course. Special consideration is given to candidates who have significant barriers preventing them from realising their full potential, for example economic or family circumstances.

Exclusions

Grants are not available to current students who are repeating part or all of an academic year unless this has been formally agreed on the basis of medical or personal circumstances. Previous recipients of a full time bursary cannot re-apply but previous applicants are welcome to.

Type of grants

Grants of £1,000 for a full time bursary and £500 for a part time bursary are available.

On a form available from the correspondent. Deadlines are usually in June/July and are advertised in the Andersonstown News and on the West Belfast Partnership website.

Chris Westwood Charity

Children and young people in Stourbridge and the surrounding areas, with physical disabilities.

Eligibility

Children and young people under the age of 25 in Stourbridge, and the surrounding areas (typically within a 50 mile radius), with physical disabilities.

Type of grants

Typical examples of support have included: special exercise equipment to assist in regaining and maintaining mobility; wheelchairs, special mobility chairs and lifting equipment; and contributions towards the cost of home modifications, to improve access, or provide specialised facilities that may be required.

Applications

In writing to the correspondent. Applications should detail: background information, the reason for the request, a detailed quotation prepared after an assessment by the supplier and details of the financial position of the family along with any funds already raised. Applications should also be supported by a suitable professional person detailing the applicants medical condition and any advantages the proposed equipment purchase would bring. The charity aims to respond to requests within 48 hours. Grants are made by cheque paid directly to the supplier.

Eligibility

Women who have been in paid employment at some time.

Type of grants

Grants of up to £1,000 for convalescence and domestic help, and up to £600 for therapy. Types of therapy covered include: physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, chiropody and podiatry and counselling.

Applications

An initial assessment form must be completed and returned to the correspondent. The form is available from the trust's website. The trust responds to every application.

The Blackpool Ladies’ Sick Poor Association

Eligibility

People in need who live in Blackpool.

Type of grants

Mainly food vouchers of £12 to £20 a month per family. Special relief grants can be made for immediate needs such as rent, second-hand cookers and washers, clothing, heaters, fireguards, stair gates and so on.

Applications

Applications must include proof of extreme hardship and must be in writing via health visitors, social workers, Citizens Advice or other welfare agencies such as Age Concern, MIND and so on. Health visitors and social workers can write to the association's treasurer directly, otherwise letters should be sent to the correspondent. Applications are considered all year round, excluding August.

Other information

The association occasionally makes grants to organisations.

Members of the Protestant faith who have been engaged in evangelistic work, including missionaries and retired missionaries, and Christian workers whose finances are inadequate. Married ordinands with children are also supported when all other sources of funding have failed to cover their needs.

Type of grants

Grants are given towards educational training at theological colleges, for the cost of books and living expenses to undergraduates and overseas students.

Other information

Grants are also made for welfare purposes.

Greek nationals pursuing an undergraduate degree course or vocational training in Great Britain where there is a real need for financial assistance. Priority is given to students in their final year of study, first and second year and postgraduate students will only be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Exclusions

Postgraduates are not eligible for funding.

Type of grants

One-off grants ranging from £250 to £2,000, awarded in cases of hardship or special need during the final year of study for books, fees and living expenses. Other cases will be considered only in exceptional circumstances of serious or unforeseen hardship. (Major scholarships for further education in the UK are also awarded to selected students; no direct applications will be considered.)

Applications

On a form available from the secretary. Applications can be submitted directly by the individual or a parent/guardian, or through an organisation such as a school or an educational welfare agency. They are considered up to 1 April in the final year, although earlier applications are preferred.

Grants of £300 to £5,000 for course fees or other costs, to enable nurses and midwives to further their professional education and development. The trust is particularly keen to fund individuals where the outcomes of their course/study will enhance patient care in the local area.
