The ECAS (Access/Holiday) Fund

 

People with impairments of the musculo-skeletal, neurological or cardio-respiratory system living in Edinburgh and the Lothian area may be eligible for a grant.

 

Unfortunately, people with the following conditions do not fall within the

Eligibility

People who are long-term and significantly disabled through impairment of the musculo-skeletal, neurological or cardio-respiratory systems of the body.

Unfortunately, people with the following conditions do not fall within the fund's eligibility criteria: psychiatric disorders, learning difficulties, behavioural disorders, developmental delay, Down’s syndrome, autism, visual or hearing impairment, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, HIV, back pain and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Exclusions

There are no grants available for: bills, debts, wheelchairs or scooters. Funding is not given to pay for items which have already been bought.

The fund regret that the following conditions on their own do not meet the criteria for participation in Ecas activities: psychiatric disorders, learning difficulties, behavioural disorders, developmental delay, Down's syndrome, autism, visual or hearing impairment, cancer, diabetes, epilepsy, HIV and back pain.

Type of grants

One-off grants of up to £500 for special equipment, white goods, special furniture, household equipment and so on. The fund also awards grants towards holidays and may contribute towards the cost of an accompanying carer or partner.

Applications requesting computer equipment will be asked to contact Ecas for assessment.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent or to download from the website. Applications must be supported by a social worker or health care professional. A short GP report is also required unless the applicant can provide a recent DLA (Care or Mobility) or Attendance Allowance award letter. Applications can be made at any time but individuals should allow around 4 weeks (12 weeks for holiday applications) for the administration of any grant.

Any application for funds for maintenance or repair for battery-packs, power-chairs or scooters must be accompanied by evidence of third party insurance.

City & Guilds Bursaries

UK residents who wish to study or are studying a City and Guilds qualification to improve their financial security.

Eligibility

UK residents who wish to study or are studying a City and Guilds qualification to improve their financial security.

Type of grants

Grants for course fees and course related expenses such as living costs, books/equipment, travel costs and childcare. Between 40 and 60 awards are made each year, amounts are agreed on a case by case basis and determined by the individual course costs.

Applications

On an online form on the website. Applications are considered twice a year, in May and October, and can be submitted up to three months before the closing date. For deadlines see the website.

City and Guilds primarily exists to provide qualifications, awards, assessments and support across a range of occupations in industry, commerce and the public services.

Professional Classes’ Aid Council

The dependants of people with a professional background who are in need.

The Charity considers cases on an individual basis although they are unable to assist with bankruptcy fees, utility bills, funeral expenses and medical costs.

The dependants of people with a professional background who are in need.

Type of grants

One-off and recurrent grants are usually given each term to help children from low income families and students whose expected funding has broken down since starting essential courses. Grants may also be awarded for school uniforms, essential school trips and help with school fees for children who are in the middle of their GCSEs or A levels when their parents financial circumstances worsen.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent, to be submitted either by the individual, or via a third party such as a social worker, Citizen's Advice or other welfare agency.

Other information

Grants are also made for welfare purposes.

A loan of up to £500 is available. All loans are interest free and should be repaid within two years of completion of course

On a form available from the correspondent. Applications are reviewed after 31 March each year. A shortlist is drawn up and references taken up. Applicants are requested to keep in touch with the trustees once a year so that their progress can be noted.

The English National Opera Benevolent Fund

People who are or have been employed by the English National Opera and/or Sadlers Wells Companies.

Eligibility

People who are or have been employed by the English National Opera and/or Sadlers Wells Companies.

Type of grants

Applicants for recurrent grants must be over 58 years old and grants '… would normally be to reimburse telephone, TV and insurance costs with small monthly cash payments or to reimburse such. One-off support is considered on a case by case basis.' Grants range between £150 and £3,000.

Medical/dental treatment is not normally supported, except where delay would affect a performing career. The fund will help with payments for treatment which is not generally available through the NHS.

Submitted directly by the individual on a form available from the correspondent, to be considered in March, June, September and December.
