The Philological Foundation

People aged 16 to 25 who attended a secondary school in the London borough of Camden or the City of Westminster, including those who are living elsewhere for their studies.

Exclusions

The foundation does not give bursaries, scholarships or loans.

Type of grants

One-off and recurrent grants of £150 to £1,000 are given to: schools and young people for educational outings in the UK, student exchange and study or travel abroad; further and higher education students for books, equipment, fees, living expenses, study or travel overseas and student exchange; equipment/tools and travel costs for people starting work and postgraduates (but not people undertaking research degrees) for books, fees, living expenses and study or travel abroad.

Grants for education are considered at the following levels: GNVQ; GCSE; A Level; Access; Foundation; Diploma; First Degree and Postgraduate Taught Degrees.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent. Applications are considered in February, April, July, September and December and completed forms (with a covering letter) must be submitted a month before these meetings. Applicants must provide: (i) proof of attendance at a Westminster or Camden school; (ii) support for the figures quoted in the amount of grant requested; (iii) exam results; and (iv) details of income and expenditure. Applicants should also have applied for a statutory loan.

The correspondent stated: 'If non-eligible students apply (for example, those aged over 25 or those who did not attend a secondary school in Westminster or Camden) the application will not be acknowledged.'

Other information

Grants are also made to schools within the area of benefit for journeys and educational visits, performing arts and books and play and environmental improvement.

Type of grants

One-off grants and gift vouchers in the range of £50 to £400 for telephone installation, help with nursing costs, convalescence, holidays, home help and other necessities. All items for which a grant is requested must have a direct connection with the applicant's illness.

In writing to the correspondent through a doctor, health visitor, priest or other third party. Applications are considered throughout the year and should contain details of the nature of illness or disability.

Worcester Municipal Exhibitions Foundation

People who are resident in, or receiving education in, the city of Worcester and the parishes of Powick, Bransford and Rushwick, and the ancient parish of Leigh for at least two years.

Help is not usually given to mature students and no grants are made to foreign students studying in the UK or for private education.

Type of grants

One-off grants are given to schoolchildren, people starting work, further and higher education students and mature students for clothing, books, equipment/instruments, fees, maintenance/living expenses, childcare, educational outings in the UK, study or travel overseas and student exchanges. Grants can range from £20 to £1,000.

Applications can be submitted by the individual or through a school, college or educational welfare agency on a form available from the correspondent. They are considered every month.

Grants are not given to those whose place of study is outside the diocese of Liverpool. Students from an EU country, or who are intending to stay in the UK at the end of their course, are not usually supported.

One-off grants of about £500 towards relieving unexpected hardships which have arisen since the start of the course.
