Children of farmers, ex-farmers, smallholders and ex-smallholders, 16 years old or over, living in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset. The applicant must be studying a dairy-related topic in further education, which will contribute to the future industry.

Type of grants

This fund aims to promote and encourage ‘practical and scientific education in dairying and dairy farming’. Grants usually range from £200 up to £2,000 a year and can be for books, fees, equipment and maintenance/living expenses.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent; two references will be required. Applications should be submitted by the individual by August each year; for consideration in September.

The Dawson & Fowler Foundation

People who have lived in the borough of Loughborough (including Hathern) for a period of not less than three years and are aged between 11 and 25 years.

Eligibility

People who have lived in the borough of Loughborough (including Hathern) for at least three years and are aged between 11 and 25 years.

Exclusions

No grants are given for accommodation, subsistence, day to day travelling costs, tuition, examination fees or crèche costs. Applications from groups of students or classes of pupils cannot be considered.

Type of grants

School uniform grants- £50 once a year for pupils in years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11

School grants- Lump sums are given to local senior schools for grants of up to £200 to help with books, equipment/instruments, trips, conferences and interview expenses. The following schools are supported: Loughborough Grammar School; Loughborough High School; Burleigh Community College; Garendon High School; Limehurst High School; Woodbrook Vale High School; De Lisle Catholic Science College; Rawlins Community College and Our Lady's Convent School.

Other grants- Grants for students in higher education; apprentices, young people involved in Scouts or Guiding, sports activities, Duke of Edinburgh Awards and other volunteering that requires a uniform.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent or a school office. The trustees meet quarterly so applications should be made well in advance to avoid disappointment. The school uniform sub-0committe considers uniform application in July or August prior to the start of the academic year.

The trustees have stated that they would like to encourage independent applications.

The Gerald Finzi Charitable Trust

Students of music aged between 25 and 70. Formal training or qualifications are not necessary.

Students of music aged between 25 and 70. Formal training or qualifications are not necessary.

Exclusions

No grants are made for attendance at courses, for the support of academic degree courses, or for fees or living expenses. Applications from students of other art forms will not be supported and group applications are not considered.

Type of grants

The trust offers grants for the purchase of musical instruments and music scholarships for projects in the UK and overseas, lasting ideally between 3 to 8 weeks. If a project involves travel then the trust can meet expenses along with the costs of accommodation, subsistence and equipment for the period involved.

Scholarships can be made for a variety of projects, such as gaining practical experience in performance, attending summer schools or education and research projects. Scholarships awarded in recent years have covered studies in Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, South America, Sweden, the UK and the USA.

Grants to individuals in 2010/11 were between £200 and £500; scholarships were for between £400 and £3,600.

Applications

Applications can be made on a form available by post from the trust, using the online form or as a download from the trust's website. Applicants must include an outline of their proposal and an estimate of the cost. Applications are considered throughout the year.

The closing date for applications is November with interviews taking place the following January.
