Perkin's Educational Foundation

People who have been living for at least two years, immediately prior to their application, in Salford Priors, Kings Broom, Bidford-on-Avon, Harvington or Cleeve Prior, and who are aged 16 to 24.

Eligibility

People aged 16 to 25 who have been living for at least two years, immediately prior to their application, in Salford Priors, Kings Broom, Bidford-on-Avon, Harvington or Cleeve Prior, and who are aged 16 to 24.

Type of grants

Grants towards the cost of books, fees/living expenses and study or travel abroad for students in further/higher education, postgraduates or mature students under 25. Help may be given towards the cost of books, equipment/instruments or travel for those involved in apprenticeships or those intending to acquire a profession or trade.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent or to download from the website, to be returned by post by mid October for consideration in November. Telephone calls will not be accepted. An applicant's first application must be accompanied by a testimonial from his/her headteacher, college principal, employer or other proper person recommending them as a suitable person to whom a grant might be made.

The British & Foreign School Society - International Award Scheme

Individuals from the UK who wish to engage in educational activities in developing countries, and vice versa.

No Longer Funding Individuals

Eligibility

Individuals from the UK who wish to engage in educational activities in developing countries. Awards can also be made to students coming to the UK from developing countries to acquire skills and knowledge which will be useful to their home country. Applicants must be in financial need and be supported by one of the link organisations with which the Society works. The trust states that 'Link organisations have been encouraged to put forward young people from a more diverse social, cultural and educational background than previously'.

Type of grants

Grants of up to £12,000 depending on the length of the overseas placement. Grants are made to enable volunteers going overseas to teach or undertake other educational activities to support the local community.

Applications

Applications must be submitted through one of the link organisations with which the Society works using the form available on the society's website, where details of application deadlines can also be found.

People in need who live in the metropolitan borough of Sefton.

Exclusions

No cash payments. Grants are not given for education, training experience, rental deposits, personal debt relief or hire purchase. Medical services are not supported.

Type of grants

One-off grants in kind only after social services have confirmed that all other benefits have been fully explored. Recent grants have been given towards clothing, bedding, cookers, washing machines and other basic household needs.

Applications

In writing to the correspondent with as much background information of family and reasons for request as possible. Applications should be submitted through social services. They are considered at any time.

The Alvechurch Grammar School Endowment

People who: (i) have lived in the civil parish of Alvechurch for at least three years; and (ii) are under the age of 25 on the 30th June in the year of application.

People who: (i) have lived in the civil parish of Alvechurch for at least three years; and (ii) are under the age of 25 on the 30 June in the year of application.

Type of grants

Applications are invited from ‘those needing help to enable them to pursue an academic or technical course whether at school or in some form of higher education and the governors are anxious to receive applications relating to education in its widest sense: young people undertaking projects designed to assist with their development, examples of which might be Sail Training Association or Outward Bound courses or language study courses abroad’.

In practice grants are given to those in further or higher education rather than schoolchildren, but they can be given for people starting work. Grants can be towards the cost of equipment, books and educational outings or travel in the UK or overseas.

Applications

On a form available from the correspondent, including parents’ income, schools attended and record of examination results. Applications are considered in January, May and September/October.

Grants are also made to youth-based organisations.

Members/former members of the institution, and their dependants living in England, Scotland and Wales.

Type of grants

One-off grants according to need. Most grants are given to people who are financially stressed through serious illness, unemployment or bereavement. For example, support for a young member no longer able to work due to multiple sclerosis.

Applications

In writing to the correspondent. Applications can be submitted directly by the individual or by a relative or close friend. They are considered in March, July and November.

Pensioners, widowers and widows in need who live in the parishes of Mildenhall and Beckrow.

Type of grants

The majority of the trust's giving is achieved through annual payments of £10 per person. One-off cash grants up to £500 towards travelling expenses to hospital, assistance to persons preparing to enter into a trade or profession and subscriptions to homes or hostels for infirm or homeless persons are also available.
