Charities supporting children and young adults

Action for Children (link opens in a new window)

Works with vulnerable and disadvantaged children and young people, whose families need support; who cannot live with their birth families; have disabilities; or experience severe difficulties in their lives.

Barnardo's (link opens in a new window)

Supports children in need, such as young carers and children in poverty, through projects, campaigning and research.

Childline (link opens in a new window)

Helpline run by NSPCC (see below) for children that they contact to discuss (in complete confidence) any problem they are experiencing.

The Children's Society (link opens in a new window)

Helps children of all faiths and none, including children at risk on the streets, disabled children, young refugees, young carers or those within the youth justice system - through projects, research and campaigns.

National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) (link opens in a new window)

Campaigns against cruelty to children and provides helplines and services for children, parents, carers and professionals.

Save the Children (link opens in a new window)

Supports children in poverty through projects, research and campaigning.

Young Minds (link opens in a new window)

Gives support to young people about mental health issues and emotional well-being. Also has resources for parents and professionals.

Child maintenance

Child Maintenance Options Service (link opens in a new window)

Provides impartial information and support to help both parents make informed choices about child maintenance. It is a service of the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission - a non-departmental public body responsible for child maintenance in Great Britain.

Child Support Agency (link opens in a new window)

Government agency responsible for ensuring that separated parents contribute financially to their children's upkeep by paying child maintenance. 

Children with disabilities and their families

Action for Kids (link opens in a new window)

National charity working with children and young people with physical and learning disabilities and their parents and carers.

Supports families that have a child with disabilities

Family Fund Extra (link opens in a new window)

Supports families who care for a severely disabled child or young person.

This interactive tool from Money Advice Service is designed to show new or expectant parents how much their baby might cost in the first year.

Charity that funds research into pregnancy problems and provides information to parents on pregnancy issues through its website and Pregnancy line.

Group of charities helping children whose parents are fighting a lot, and helping parents to avoid getting into this situation in the first place.

Website, similar to a social enterprise, providing information and resources on all aspects of being a parent.

Parents Advice Centre (PAC) is a leading Northern Ireland Charity that provides support and guidance to parents through the Parents Helpline, Parenting Education Project, The Men's Project and Parenting Forum NI.

Online resource for parents from Money Advice Service.

A website run by a charity called Youthnet that supports young adults, has a section on pregnancy and parenthood for young people, with information specifically for young mums.

Grandparents

National charity which supports all grandparents and their families.

Online forum for grandparents and older people.

Website that provides a place for grandparents to swap ideas and experiences.
