Get involved and raise awareness of our No Cold Homes campaign

“My wife is disabled so energy costs are a big concern for us. I tend to not eat so my wife stays warm; I know I can survive on a piece of toast a day for up to two weeks if I need to.

We have to put our bills on the credit card and worry about them in the summer.”

We hear shocking stories like this every day.

No one should have to live in a cold home

That’s why we’re running our No Cold Homes campaign. We want to shed light on the everyday realities of fuel poverty in the UK – something that affects so many, from low income workers and older people to people with disabilities and long-term illnesses.

We want to help more people who are struggling with their energy costs. We want to show them there’s support out there for them and we want to help them to get the financial support they desperately need this winter.

But we need your help.

What you can do

  • Join our campaign and get regular news and updates
  • Follow us on FacebookTwitter and Instagram and spread the word about #NoColdHomes
  • If you know someone struggling, go to Find support to check what welfare benefits, grants and other support might be available.
  • Text COLD04 to 70070 to donate £4, donate online or call our Fundraising Team on 0208 834 9271 to make a donation

Anything you can give will help people in desperate financial hardship to stay warm and healthy this winter.

Thank you for your support.

Anne’s story

Our financial problems started when I had to give up work to care for my daughter when she developed mental health problems. It was really hard going from a full-time job to nothing. Things then got even worse when my husband had an accident and couldn’t work either.

“We made a claim for Employment and Support Allowance but were surviving on only around £110 per week. We had to live off our credit card and couldn’t afford the bills. Electricity we were really rationing because we just didn’t have enough money coming in, and we had to save up to buy our food shopping once every three months. It was getting to the stage where we were considering going to the food bank, we didn’t know what else to do.

“We realised we needed help – the bills were coming in and we’d got nothing or nowhere to go.

“Luckily we heard about Turn2us, and after using the Benefits Calculator it was a massive relief to find that we could make a claim for Personal Independence Payment and Carer’s Allowance. Receiving these benefits has doubled our income and means we don’t have to live hand to mouth anymore. This will be the first winter we’ve had in three years when we can actually have the heating on, which makes such a big difference. And being able to buy a weekly food shop and start to pay off our credit card debt is a big relief. I don’t feel like I’m carrying things on my shoulders now and it’s given us some independence, which is brilliant.”

We hear from people like Anne every day, who are struggling with financial hardship and can’t afford to heat their homes. With your help, we can give more people the chance to get the urgent support they need this winter.
