Edinburgh Trust: Real life stories

Read examples of how our Edinburgh Trust grants have helped people in Edinburgh

""Sally

Sally is a carer for her adult daughter, and is on a low income. Her Housing Support Worker helped her make an application to the Edinburgh Trust so she could secure funding. She was able to buy much needed warm clothing and meet her fuel bills over the winter months.

Mark

Mark has just moved to a new home.  He’s unable to work due to complicated health difficulties. His Housing Officer helped him make an application to us so that he could purchase a washing machine. He is now able to do his own washing and doesn’t have to make an expensive trip to a launderette every week.

Louise

Louisa is a part time cleaner on the minimum wage. Her fridge-freezer broke down and she couldn’t afford to replace it. Her Welfare Rights Adviser helped her with an application to the Trust and we were able to provide funding so she could buy a new one. She‘s now able to do a weekly grocery shop, saving her time and money.

Steven

“Thank you for processing the grant so speedily. It has enabled Steven to leave a psychiatric hospital ward and set up his own supported tenancy for the first time in his life.  I have visited him at home and seen the difference this award has made”  Mike, Social Worker

Hillcrest Tenancy Sustainment Service

“The Trust has been an absolute lifeline to the people our service works with.  The fund is flexible and has stepped in with financial aid and support for our tenants.  The staff are responsive, kind, approachable and have consistently gone the extra mile working closely with us to assist people to sustain their tenancies or move into a new home”

Community Help & Advice Initiative (CHAI)

“The Trust has helped so many of our clients purchase essential household items that they would really struggle without.  Receiving the grant really makes a difference to people’s lives.  The application process is straightforward and the staff are very helpful”.
