Scottish Welfare Fund - How much will I get from the Scottish Welfare Fund?

The Scottish Welfare Fund is made up of two types of grants which do not have to be repaid - Crisis Grants and Community Care Grants. Crisis Grants are intended to provide a safety net in an emergency when there is an immediate threat to health and safety. Community Care Grants are intended to enable independent living or continued independent living, preventing the need for institutional care.

How much will I get from the Scottish Welfare Fund?

The Scottish Welfare Fund pays out grants or assistance in kind (cash, fuel cards, food vouchers, travel warrants, loaded store card for e.g. white goods/furniture). Local authorities will have discretion on the type of support offered.

Awards to families under “exceptional pressure” will be focused on providing a safe and secure environment for children.

There will be a more holistic approach linking to services which may build capacity, such as offering budgeting or other money advice, or encouraging saving.

The Scottish Welfare Fund and other benefits

A grant from the Scottish Welfare Fund does not affect any other benefits or tax credits.
