Training and support

We are as committed to our volunteers as they are to us. That is why our Volunteer Support Team is here to equip you with all you need.

We help you through the induction process and training, and when you have joined our team we work closely with you to make sure you are feeling happy and confident in the role. We can talk with you if you need briefing or reassurance before or after a visit, and take note of any preferences that you have; such as only being prepared to travel a certain distance.

It takes two days of training to become a Volunteer Case Consultant. Our training days are every other month and based in our London Head Office. We also arrange training days further afield from time to time. You can check available training days in the Training Dates section below.

Before you make your very first visit, you will be able to shadow another more experienced volunteer. You will also be invited back for refresher training days when you have been with us for a couple of years to ensure that everyone is fully equipped to support the work of the Charity.

No volunteer should be out of pocket because of the help they have given us. We will always reimburse reasonable out-of-pocket travel expenses and insure you against public and personal liability and accident when you volunteer with us.

Our community

We regularly arrange social events for our volunteers throughout the UK so you can meet us and other volunteers who are passionate about our shared vision. We also welcome informal visits to our office that can be booked in advance.

Our promise

We are proud to have achieved Investing in Volunteers accreditation. It proves our ability to maintain the best volunteer management practices. We promise to stay committed to making sure that you are giving your time within a positive, supportive and well managed environment.
