How do I search for help using the Turn2us Grants Search? - Turn2us Grants Search: First search

This section explains how to use the Turn2us Grants Search to find charitable funds that may be able to help you, based on your personal circumstances, background and needs.

Turn2us Grants Search: First search

The first part of the Grants Search (see screengrab at the bottom of this page) asks you to put in information about your circumstances (and/or those of the person you are seeking help for - a relative, dependent, friend or client).

Required fields (text boxes for you to input information or tick a box)

  • Location (postcode if you live in the UK or tick boxes if you live in the Republic of Ireland or overseas) – This is to give you details of any charities that help people who live where you live

  • Gender – Some of the charities only help one gender. By putting your gender, the Grants Search will filter out any charities that are not relevant

  • Age – to filter out grants for specific age groups that are not relevant.

Optional fields (dropdown menus)

  • Occupation: Think about the whole of your occupational history including any Armed Forces service.

  • Health: This is not a complete list of health conditions. It reflects the conditions that at least one charity on our grants search specifically focuses on.

Second part of the Turn2us Grants Search

These two fields involve dropdown menus.

You can either start typing an occupation into the text box - for example, 'hairdresser' to bring up any relevant categories (See Screengrab below.)

Or you can click in the textbox with your cursor and this will bring up the start of the dropdown menu. You can use the scrollbar at the right hand side to move down the list. (See Screengrab below.)

We ask about your occupations and health because many charities help people who have worked in a particular job or have a certain health condition.

Tips for searching

  • You may find it helpful to read our checklist of information needed to make an enquiry/application to a charitable fund.

  • Do a search for yourself and a separate one for your partner, ex-partner and/or the child/adult you are caring for. Some charities will provide help based on your partner's/ex-partner's circumstances as well as your own e.g. their occupation or health condition. If you are looking for help for a child, charities may help based on the parents/guardians circumstances, others because of the child's circumstances.  So it is worth doing a search on all relevant circumstances.
