Meet Pratibha

Pratibha volunteered as part of the Engagement team at head office and recalls her experience, telling us why she values volunteering.

"It opens up a window to learn and sharpen a new skill, polish some old ones and gives you time to reflect on your next steps."

"I try my best to help people when there is a need. I also try and involve myself with the local community. It gives me a chance to meet new people, gives me a sense of belonging and allows me to work towards a good cause. Most importantly, it gives me the opportunity to forge new friendships."

Pratibha decided to apply for the role at Head Office as she wanted to practice and learn new skills that would help her get a job with a charity.

"I have always been involved with the local community. It was a natural progression for me to move into the charity sector. When I saw that there was an opportunity to volunteer with Turn2us, I decided to offer my time. It gave me the opportunity to learn from the organisation and give me the skills that I needed to further my career," she says.

As part of the Engagement team, Pratibha was a great support. "My role was wide ranging," she explains. "It involved finding a venue for an upcoming workshop; updating the volunteer records; and printing and mailing training materials for upcoming training. I helped the Engagement team as and when there was a need.

"Volunteering opens up a window to learn and sharpen a new skill, polish some old ones and gives you time to reflect on your next steps."

When asked why more people should volunteer, Pratibha had this reply: "The message has to be out there that no matter what background the person comes from, they are always welcome. They can learn and progress with the right attitude and the desire to learn. I would encourage a person to get involved with an organisation that is a right fit for them and is a good match with their personality. It should be a win-win for both parties involved."

If you want to sharpen your skills or learn new ones and be a part of a lively team at head office, then apply to be a Turn2us Volunteer.
