Financial help for current and former construction workers

In light of Carillion going into compulsory liquidation, we would like to highlight some of the charitable funds on our Grant Search that help current and former workers within the construction industry.

Carillion employs 43,000 people worldwide, 20,000 of whom live in the UK. The firm has collapsed after soaring debts of almost £1bn.

However, the government will provide necessary funding to maintain the public services carried out by Carillion.

What help is available?

If you work, have worked, or have family members, who work within the construction industry, financial help may be available to you from one of the following charities.

The Chartered Institute of Building Benevolent Fund

The CIOB Benevolent Fund provides practical advice, information and financial assistance for Institute members (past and present) and their dependent families worldwide, if they are in need because of crisis, illness, unemployment or struggling financially

Building and Civil Engineering Charitable Trust

B&CE’s Charitable Trust was set up for the benefit of workers in the construction industry and their families, to help alleviate individual financial strain.

The Lighthouse Club: The Construction Industry Charity

This charity offers support for people who have worked in the construction industry for at least five years. They provide grants, advice and help with debt among other things.

If you are struggling financially you can use the Grant Search to find charitable funds that may be able to help.

You can also use the Benefits Calculator to find out what you are entitled to.
