If you are blind or have a visual impairment, there may be grants, benefits or other financial support available to you.

Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB)

Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) offers small grants to people who are registered blind or partially sighted and on means-tested benefits. The items they offer grants for include:

  • Computer software
  • Voice recorders
  • Portable video magnifiers
  • Talking kitchen and labelling equipment
  • A talking mobile phone
  • Accessible smartphone
  • Accessible tablet
  • DAISY players
  • USB readers and e-readers.

Gardner’s Trust for the Blind

Gardner’s Trust for the Blind provides grants for people who are registered blind or partially sighted and live in the UK. All applicants must be registered blind or partially sighted. Applications are considered on a case by case basis but grants are usually given to help with tuition or course fees, computer equipment and household items, such as white goods.

Elizabeth Eagle-Bott Memorial Awards

Elizabeth Eagle-Bott Memorial Awards offers grants for blind and partially sighted musicians with musical study, tuition or projects and events for the benefit of local, national and international communities.

Revitalise Joan Brander Memorial Fund

Revitalise Joan Brander Memorial Fund gives financial grants for adults aged 18 and over who are physically disabled, and their carers, who are in need of short-term care breaks.

Benefits

In addition to grants, you may also be eligible for some benefits. The main benefits are: Disability Living Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, Employment Support AllowanceAttendance Allowance. You may also be able to claim tax credits, Access To Work, Disabled Students' Allowance and Blind Person’s Allowance.
