How the Response Fund works

Who can apply?

Applications to the Response Fund can only be made by our Turn2us Response Fund partner organisations – a selected group of charities and not-for-profit organisations, based across the UK.

Each referral partner has its own eligibility rules and processes for applying to the Response Fund on behalf of people they work with. We are currently reviewing the partner organisations who we work with to support people experiencing a life-changing event. We have therefore removed the list from the website until it’s been updated.

What does the Response Fund help with?

The Turn2us Response Fund supports people when they need it most - when they are coping with a life-changing event, such as:

  • Beginning to live with a disability
  • Bereavement – including funeral costs
  • Domestic abuse
  • Ill health or injury
  • Poor physical or mental wellbeing with a recent diagnosis of a health condition or disability
  • Reduced income through redundancy
  • Reduction in working hours due to ill-health or accident
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Unsafe, insecure or inappropriate housing arrangements
  • Other unexpected occurrences which impact severely on an individual’s quality of life.

The Fund gives targeted support to assist individuals to meet the challenges posed by a life-changing event which has happened in the last 12 months and help them to improve their situation. Grants are provided for specific needs which are essential to the financial stability, wellbeing and independence of the individual/family to help them to maintain normal daily living.

“You’re in a little bit of a state of despair. You’re trying to be brave. You try and keep your dignity. When you get a little bit of a hand-up, it makes you think: ‘Oh, okay. Things are turning round now. I’ve got a bit of power here. I’ve got a little bit of money. I didn't expect this. So I’ve got a few more options now.’ And it just builds your confidence up a little bit."

If you are an individual in need

Turn2us Response Fund referral partners are only able to make applications for people they are already working with. If you are not receiving support from one of our partners, please do not contact them with a request to make an application for you. As stated above, we are currently reviewing the partner organisations who we work with to support people experiencing a life-changing event. We have therefore removed the list from the website until it’s been updated.

Help from other funds

Help may also be available from other charitable funds, including some that individuals can make a direct enquiry to. Please use our Grants Search to look for any charitable funds which match your circumstances, background and needs. You may also want to call the Turn2Us helpline on 0808 802 2000, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm Mondays-Fridays.
