How the Response Fund works

Who can apply?

Applications to the Response Fund can only be made by our Turn2us Response Fund partner organisations – a selected group of charities and not-for-profit organisations, based across the UK.

Each referral partner has its own eligibility rules and processes for applying to the Response Fund on behalf of people they work with.

What does the Response Fund help with?

The Turn2us Response Fund supports people when they need it most - when they are coping with a life-changing event, such as:

  • Beginning to live with a disability
  • Bereavement – including funeral costs
  • Domestic abuse
  • Ill health or injury
  • Poor physical or mental wellbeing with a recent diagnosis of a health condition or disability
  • Reduced income through redundancy
  • Reduction in working hours due to ill-health or accident
  • Relationship breakdown
  • Unsafe, insecure or inappropriate housing arrangements
  • Other unexpected occurrences which impact severely on an individual’s quality of life.

The Fund gives targeted support to assist individuals to meet the challenges posed by a life-changing event which has happened in the last 12 months and help them to improve their situation. Grants are provided for specific needs which are essential to the financial stability, wellbeing and independence of the individual/family to help them to maintain normal daily living.

“You’re in a little bit of a state of despair. You’re trying to be brave. You try and keep your dignity. When you get a little bit of a hand-up, it makes you think: ‘Oh, okay. Things are turning round now. I’ve got a bit of power here. I’ve got a little bit of money. I didn't expect this. So I’ve got a few more options now.’ And it just builds your confidence up a little bit."

Important message for Turn2us Response Fund referral partners

Due to the coronavirus situation, our office is closed and all staff are working from home. However, we are still accepting applications for the Turn2us Response Fund.

Please ensure that any applications you submit fully meet the criteria of the Response Fund and that you supply all the required documentation to process the application.

We are aware that most of you are no longer having face-to-face contact with applicants and may not be able to obtain a signed declaration from them. We will accept either:

  • An attached email from them confirming that they authorise you to submit the application on their behalf, or

  • A typed name on the declaration and a telephone number for us to contact them for confirmation.

If you are an individual in need

If you are already supported by any of our Response Fund referral partners, you could contact them to ask whether they are able to help you with an application.

If you are not already in touch with one of our partners but they help people in your situation, (for instance, Age UK if you are aged 55+), you could contact them for general support. This may or may not include making an application to the Response Fund.

Help from other funds

Help may also be available from other charitable funds, including some that individuals can make a direct enquiry to. Please use our Grants Search to look for any charitable funds which match your circumstances, background and needs.
