Support Digital Buddies with your expert knowledge of UK benefits - all from your mobile phone

We have recently launched Turn2us Connect. The project matches volunteer Digital Buddies to people applying for benefits through an online chat platform.  

We know that the benefit application process is complicated. No two cases are the same.

That is where we need you. You will support Digital Buddies by helping to answer complex questions they receive about benefits. 

The Benefits Supporter role is perfect for you because:

  • You have specialist knowledge and experience of the benefits system. 
  • This role is digital, giving you the flexibility to volunteer at times that suit you.
  • You will feel great knowing you are making an impact, supporting people through challenging times.

Connect Digital Buddy Support Role


The flexibility of this role allows you to volunteer wherever you like. All you will need is your smartphone and access to Wi-Fi or mobile data.


The time you choose to be available is flexible and can be decided at a later stage.

Time Commitment

We start by asking volunteers for a commitment of 12 weeks. After this we can have a catch up and see if you would like to continue.

Tasks involved

  • Supporting Digital Buddies with important practical information
  • Telling Digital Buddies when their Connections need to be referred to an advisor.
  • Signposting Digital Buddies to helpful services and information.

It is important to add that your role is not to provide any form of advice.

Skills required

  • You will need high level knowledge of the UK welfare system- maybe you work in a benefits related field or you used to.
  • Be confident in using mobile based chat apps like WhatsApp.
  • Able to use the Internet to research and signpost Digital Buddies to helpful information.


Training and Support

All volunteers receive an induction to Turn2us and relevant training for their role. Volunteers are supported by the Volunteer Support Manager, Volunteer Support Officers and the Volunteering Projects Officer.​
