Frequently Asked Questions about Find an Adviser

What is Find an Adviser?

Our Find an Adviser tool contains details of local, regional and national organisations in all areas of the UK that can provide information and advice on one or more of the following subjects:

Benefits, Bereavement, Debt, Disability. Domestic violence, Foodbanks, Housing, Homelessness, Immigration, Legal issues, Mental health.

How do I search on Find an Adviser?

Enter your valid UK postcode (or that of the person you are seeking an adviser for) and select a 'Topic' and a 'Distance' from the drop-down menus on the Find an Adviser home page.

If you don't have a postcode (because you are homeless or for some other reason), enter a postcode for the place where you want to find local advisers.

Then click 'Search' to see the results of your search. This will be a list of organisations giving their names and a brief summary of what each one does.

You will probably find that only some of the results apply to your situation. You will need to read the summaries to get an idea of what each service provides

When you find a service that you think might be able to help you, you can find out more about them by clicking on the name of the organisation or the link at the end of the summary

This will take you to the organisation's Find an Adviser profile.

My search didn't give me any results. What do I do?

You may find your search gives you no results or only information on services that don't meet your needs.

You could try broadening out your search. You can do this by choosing a different option from the 'Topic' or 'Distance' drop-down boxes.

If this still doesn't come up with anything, try searching with a postcode for a city near you. Postcodes for urban areas are likely to produce more results than those in rural areas.

If there is a Citizens Advice bureau near you (or similar general advice service), they may be able to advise you on your situation or give you details of local services to meet your needs.

How do I register my organisation on Find an Adviser?
