Using Find an Adviser

Learn how to use our interactive tool to find advice and support services to help you, based on your particular circumstances and needs

What is Find an Adviser?

Our Find an Adviser tool allows you to search for sources of information and advice on benefits, bereavement, debt, disability, domestic violence, foodbank, housing, homelessness, immigration, legal issues and mental health.

It contains details of local, regional and national organisations in all areas of the UK.

How to search on Find an Adviser

Enter your valid UK postcode (or that of the person you are seeking an adviser for) and select a 'Topic' and a 'Distance' from the dropdown menus on the Find an Adviser home page.

Then click 'Search' to see the results of your search. (See screengrab below.)

Looking at the results

Once you click the search button, you should then get a list of results (see example on the screengrab below).

You will probably find that only some of the results apply to your situation. You will need to read the summaries to get an idea of what each service provides.

When you find a service that you think might be able to help you, you can find out more about them by clicking on the name of the organisation or the link at the end of the summary (see screengrab example below).

This will take you to the service's Find an Adviser profile.

If your search yields no results

You may find your search gives you no results or only information on services that don't meet your needs.

You could try broadening out your search.  You can do this by choosing a different option from the 'Topic' or 'Distance' dropdown boxes. If this still doesn't come up with anything, try searching with a postcode for a city near you. Postcodes for urban areas are likely to produce more results than those in rural areas.

If there is a Citizens Advice bureau near you (or similar general advice service), they may be able to advise you on your situation or give you details of local services to meet your needs.

Registering on Find an Adviser or updating your listing

If you are from a not-for-profit advice organisation and you would like it to be added to 'Find an Adviser' or are from one that is already listed and the profile needs updating, please contact: ukadvicefinder@adviceuk.org.uk.

Please do not use this email address if you are seeking advice and help.
