Billions in benefits going unclaimed: Six in 10 Turn2us users find hidden support

Millions of UK households are missing out on billions in financial support, according to new data from UK national anti-poverty charity Turn2us. 

Analysis of over 1.5 million users of the charity’s free online Benefits Calculator reveals that, over the past year, 60% of people discovered they were eligible for benefits they weren’t claiming, with the total potential value running into the billions of pounds. 

Key findings include: 

• £9.6 billion in unclaimed Universal Credit, a critical payment for low-income households. 
• £588 million in Carer’s Allowance uncovered by nearly 185,000 carers. 
• Over £636 million missed in New-Style Jobseeker’s Allowance, affecting more than 135,000 people. 

The figures come as families continue to try to balance the financial burden of the summer holidays and the back-to-school season, with essentials like uniforms, shoes, and stationery adding pressure to already stretched budgets. 

Turn2us is urging single parents, carers, and working families to check their benefit entitlement using its free and anonymous online tool.
