Thomas Lawson, CEO, Turn2us says:
"Today, 350,000 children across the country get their childhood back, thanks to the scrapping of the cruel two-child limit. Scrapping the two-child limit ends an unjust policy that pushed thousands of families into years of unjust hardship. This is not only the right thing to do, giving children a fair start strengthens Britain’s future prosperity.
"But the job is not finished.
"The decision to retain the benefit cap means thousands of the UK’s poorest families will not benefit from this change. Removing it must be the next step, so no child is left behind.
"Most of us will use the social security system at some point in our lives - and we need a system that protects us and supports us to progress. We welcome the government’s ambitions to support people into new and better work, including measures to target young unemployment.
"However, right now, instead of helping people to move forward, a culture of surveillance, distrust, and control is eroding their health, confidence, and self-belief, pushing them even further away from work. The government needs to give coaches the time, capacity and training to build trust and help people take the next step in their careers.
"This government made manifesto promises to slash child poverty, stop the rising need for food banks and take action on the cost-of-living crisis. Today it has started to deliver, but there’s still lots more to do to build a dignified social security system we can all rely on.”
