Claire Atchia McMaster, Director of Income and External Affairs, Turn2us says:
"Like our NHS, our social-security system should be there for every one of us when we need it. Yet, this week, the government is expected to bring forward legislation that will cut vital support and push more people into poverty.
"As today’s cross-party MP report underlines, health and disability benefits are often the only thing keeping households afloat. Cutting that support will only make it harder for people to live independently, find work and risks undermining their wellbeing. We urge the government to drop these nonsensical cuts and work with disabled people to create a social-security system that we can all trust and be proud of.
"Finally, how we talk about social security matters. We ask MPs and journalists to use our Talking About Social Security guides, ensuring their messages during these challenging debates help build understanding of this vital public service and avoid fuelling harmful stigma."
