Additional Elements of Universal Credit - Transitional Protection Element
Universal Credit has extra payments that can be added on top of your standard allowance if you're eligible.

Only some people can get this extra payment in their Universal Credit amount.
Those eligible include:
- Some people who claimed Universal Credit after receiving a When a legacy benefit ends and the person is invited to claim Universal Credit. See full definition notice letter and claimed within the deadline given.
- Some people who were entitled to Severe Disability Premium (SDP) on their Benefits that are being replaced by Universal Credit. See full definition .
This amount starts at the rates below but over time it will gradually be reduced:
- Single person with an LCWRA element: £143.37 per month
- Single person with no LCWRA element: £340.50 per month
- Couple, both entitled to SDP: £483.88 per month
- Couple, only one person entitled to SDP, with an LCWRA element: £143.37 per month
- Couple, only one person entitled to SDP, with no LCWRA element: £340.50 per month.
