Women's Aid Rail to Refuge Scheme

Share

Women fleeing domestic abuse can now access free train travel to refuge accommodation, through Women’s Aid’s ‘Rail to Refuge’ scheme, launched in March, which is supported by Southeastern and Great Western Railway.

Women escaping domestic abuse are usually advised to seek refuge services far away from their perpetrator. However, for many women, raising the cash to pay for a train ticket can be very difficult. This is especially true for women experiencing economic abuse, who may have no access to cash.

The Women’s Aid Rail to Refuge scheme means that survivors with a refuge space can travel for free across England, Scotland and Wales.

Are you a woman fleeing domestic abuse?

If you are a survivor who would like to access the Rail to Refuge scheme, please contact the Women’s Aid Live Chat Service. The charity's trained support workers will be able to advise you.

For more information on the service, see the Rail to Refuge Frequently Asked Questions on the Women's Aid website.

For more information on other help for people who are experiencing or at risk of domestic violence, see the Turn2us news story: Boots to offer safe spaces (May 2020)
