What is a national insurance record?

Your National Insurance Record is a record of all the National Insurance Contributions you have paid and all the National Insurance Credits you have received.  

Gaps in your National Insurance record can affect your entitlement to benefits like: 

  • Contribution-based Jobseeker’s Allowance 
  • Contributory Employment & Support Allowance 
  • Basic State Pension 
  • New State Pension
