How do I claim Scottish Adult DLA?

Scottish Adult DLA is a closed benefit and is not open for new applications. It is only available to those already getting DLA for adults from the Department for Work and Pensions.

You do not need to make a claim or complete an application form. The transfer process will happen automatically.

If you were getting Scottish Adult DLA or DLA for adults in the past twelve months and are no longer getting it, then you might be eligible to make a request. You should contact Social Security Scotland if this is the case.

Scottish Adult DLA and other benefits

If you’re moving to Scottish Adult DLA and get Universal Credit, you will need to let the DWP know. You should leave a note in your journal or call the Universal Credit helpline.

Change of Circumstances

If you experience a change of circumstances during your move to Scottish Adult DLA from DLA for adults, you should let the DWP know. Social Security Scotland will only be responsible for your claim when the transfer is complete.

If you experience a change of circumstances after you complete your move to Scottish Adult DLA, you should let Social Security Scotland know. You should report a change in circumstances if:

  • you need more support with daily tasks or mobility,
  • your health condition or disability gets worse, improves or is different from when you claimed
  • your personal details change, such as address or bank account
