How do I claim Carer Support Payment?
You can apply online, by making an application on the MYGOV.SCOT website
You can request a claim form over the phone, by calling Social Security Scotland for free:
- Telephone: 0800 182 2222
- Outside UK: +44(0) 1382 931 000
- British Sign Language (BSL) users: Contact Scotland app
The helpline is open Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 5.00pm. The form comes with notes telling you how to complete it.
You can download a Carer Support Payment claim form online, complete it and send it by post to:

- Dundee
- DD1 9HE
You can also apply in person if you need support from a Social Security Scotland client adviser. This is through the Local Delivery service.
What documents do I need to claim Carer Support Payment?
- If you’re working, you’ll need to provide the payslip from immediately before the date you want to start your claim, as well as any payslips you’ve had since
- If you are self-employed, the most recent finalised accounts for your business
- Your bank or building society details
- Details of the person you care for
Backdating your payment
You may be eligible for your payment to be backdated for up to 13 weeks.
In some cases, you may get a backdated payment for more than 13 weeks. For this, the person you care for:
- must have been awarded their disability benefit in the last 13 weeks, and
- their disability benefit must have been backdated to a start date more than 13 weeks ago
Your Carer Support Payment will start from the date the disability benefit was backdated to, or the first date after this that you met all the other eligibility criteria.
