Warm Home Discount extended for two years

Share

New regulations have been issued to extend the Warm Home Discount scheme until 31 March 2018. In force from 23 July 2016, the Warm Home Discount (Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations 2016 allows electricity companies to continue making payments to specified groups of Pension Credit and benefit claimants and additional groups of low income or vulnerable customers until 2018.

The rules and amount of payment remain unchanged from 2015/2016, providing payments and services to:

  • A core group - electricity suppliers provide a rebate of £140 off electricity bills to eligible customers in receipt of Pension Credit guarantee credit; and
  • A non-core group - electricity suppliers provide a rebate of £140 off electricity bills to low income and vulnerable customers who meet their individual eligibility criteria.

Our 2015 fuel poverty campaign “No Cold Homes” found that half of low income working households were struggling with energy costs. Throughout the campaign, we encouraged anyone in financial hardship to use our free Benefits Calculator, Grants Search and Your Situation information pages to see if they were eligible for welfare benefits, charitable grants and other support.
